  • Odometers
    • Odometers are calculated from GPS and may get off from time to time. Check the current calculated odometer (from Settings tab) a couple times a day and syncronize with actual vehicle odometer.
  • Notifications
    • ParaPlan will alert a driver when a trip has been added, modified or removed from their manifest.
    • Notifications are slightly nuanced and knowing the details can help when drivers are having issues. When the iPad gets a notification, only the device gets the notification, not the ParaPlan app itself. It is network expensive and battery wasteful to constantly check for new/changed data, so ParaPlan only checks when either the driver pulls to refresh, OR if the driver performs an action with a notification. When ParaPlan opens FROM a notification, it gets a special message so it knows to go check the server for new data. This means swiping on notifications from the lock screen, or clicking the notification banner when using a different app.
      • If the driver has the app open, it will show in a popup box and the data will be automatically refreshed.
      • If they are using a different app (like Maps), it will appear at the very top of the iPad. The driver should touch the notification to switch to ParaPlan. This will make sure the latest information is downloaded.
      • If the screen is locked, it will appear on the lock screen. The driver should swipe on the notification. This will make sure the latest info is downloaded.
  • Troubleshooting
    • Sometimes things just don't work. There can be any reason for this ranging from server-side issues, poor data coverage, or problems with the app. Usually problems can be solved by following this punch list.
      • Pull to refresh. If something doesn't look right or if the driver's manifest suddenly when blank, the driver should pull down to get new data from the server.
      • Logout/Login. ParaPlan is constantly performing extensive security checks to make sure that nobody can hack the system. Sometime these server checks get out of sync. Logging out and logging back ensures the driver has a fresh token.
      • Airplane mode. Cellular networks are still immature in some rural areas. Often times, connection errors can be attributed to a poor data connection. Going into Airplane mode forces the cellular modem to get a new tower and often a better connection. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Click the button that looks like an airplane. The other buttons should go grey one by one. After 5 seconds or so, click the airplane button again and it will restart the radios.
      • Force quit. Drivers should be instructed to call before doing a force quit. We need to know when and why driver's need to force quit. Any force quits should be reported to EnGraph. To force quit, double click the home button and swipe up on the ParaPlan thumbnail screen.
      • Uninstall/reinstall. If the user settings get out of wack, uninstall to start from scratch. From the home screen, press and hold on ParaPlan. When it starts to jiggle, press the little x and confirm the app deletion. Launch the App Store and click Purchased and redownload ParaPlan.
  • Common questions
    • What if I forget to perform an action?
      • Don't worry about it. Catch up as soon as you can. Make sure you let dispatch know so they can correct it on the desktop.
    • My odometer is way off all the time.
      • This happens sometimes. Make sure you are updating the odometer more frequently. We may need to run special tests on your iPad to make sure we are getting good GPS data.
    • My times are way off.
      • Double click any white space or headers to toggle between Action Time, Appointment Time and Performed Time.
    • Does this thing know how fast I'm driving?
      • Yes. It also knows that you waited a full 5 minutes before marking Betty as a no-show so when she calls to complain about you not picking her up, I can tell her she is a liar.
    • Do I need to logout when I am done for the day?
      • No. We stop collecting GPS if you don't have any assigned trips.
    • Does each driver get their own iPad?
      • Any driver can use any iPad. They will login with their own login.
    • Can I use my personal iPhone/iPad to use ParaPlan?
      • Sure. You will get push notifications for every device you are signed in to.
